Objectives

  • To forge a holistic innovative and interdisciplinary research community through advisory group meetings, open workshops and collaborative development of concepts and prototypes
  • To explore the implications for clothing in society and for the fashion industry, focusing on research and development in design processes and manufacturing (LCA), and how to design for personalisation, co-creation and appropriation by wearers.
  • To contribute to research in ubiquitous computing by advancing design that is personal, adaptive and communicative.
  • To determine ways to rationalise the cultures and time scales of different industries, in particular the in-built obsolescence of fashion and the development time-lines of technology.
  • To establish a common forum for eliciting 21st century priorities and issues for further research, and to prepare and submit research funding proposals for new product development and design research.
  • To highlight future imperatives and directions for the relevant industries, namely high-specification products and more sustainable production and consumption.
