Oakdene Hollins Ltd

I am a director of Oakdene Hollins Ltd, a sustainable technology and waste consultancy based in Aylesbury. Most of our time is spent carrying out:

  • policy-related work for government
  • market, technology and sectoral studies for industry
  • co-ordination of applied R&D programmes for the government departments such as DPEI, Research Councils, WRAP.

My research interests are fairly part-time and are fitted around our paid contractual work (although eventually we hope to make them pay!). They include a number of specific new sustainable technologies, mainly in the industrial field, which we hope to develop to commercialisation. As with many researchers, I am increasingly interested in consumption issues, including the aesthetics of sustainable development - how can it be made beautiful? This is one of the opportunities that I see within the fashion arena.

We have just been awarded a project under the Defra Waste Research Programme on the recycling of clothing, which we will be carrying out together with Joan Farrer of RCA, Salvation Army Trading Ltd and Leeds University.
